w/ John Vanderslice, Smile, David Lovering, sword swallowers and a troll

[review]

The band did a really great cover of "Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House. I thought that song was a perfect choice. I didn't expect them to choose an 80s New Wave hit. They also covered Modest Mouse as usual. Their Modest Mouse covers often sound better than Modest Mouse because Jenny's voice isn't annoying like the lead singer of Modest Mouse.

They played new songs which seem to have a slight Grandaddy influence with the keyboard effects. They were sounding rather good, and akward trumpet boy Phil helped.

Whoa... can I just say... Rilo Kiley were really amazing last night. The Crowded House cover was so rad!!! The new songs, "Party Atmosphere" and "Chemical Stress" were spectacular!
Everyone and their momma's was at the show, eh? The place was packed!

i went to the rilo kiley show, it was amazing. smile was great, and i thought john vanderslcie was asi-asi. smile was much better than i had expected it to be. who would have thought that my pal sina (persian guy in the green shirt blowing the bubbles) would have gotten molested by the audacious dancing troll?

ps did anyone see "jackie" from that 70's show besides me? she was wearing a white and pink rk shirt in the corner of the room. she gave jenny a hug before they started their show.

Whoever that Troll was...
All I have to say is that from now on, I'm NEVER volunteering in an audience again. Front row and a tall boyfriend earned me a pink-ish "Somebody in RILO KILEY loves me" 1" button that I ADORE. My second RK show and I am once again blown away. It's amazing how quickly a band can become one of your favorites!! I love Party Atmosphere, but I *really* dig "Chemical Stress". I think Phil the trumpet boy is ultimatley precious (as well as the rest of the band, of course). The Crowded House cover was amazing. Jenny did a beautiful job - they all did, actually. I thought it was precious that they had an encore and didn't know what they were going to play, and it seemed almost unexpected. Since this was only my second Rilo Kiley show, do they usually headline or do encores? Wow... talk about a rockin' show!! I honestly think I'm in love. Balloons on stage, dousing the audience in confetti, candy and glitterstuff... where has this band been all my life!!??!
