[review]

Saw RK at the Sunset Junction show yesterday. This show was part of a yearly street festival in my neighborhood that always draws thousands of people to it.

The band came on right at 5:15 and only played about 40 minutes. All songs from the latest record--nothing new at all. The sound was pretty bad, but at least they looked like they were having fun! Great opportunity to take a few pictures at least.

Unbelievable. That's all I can say. I guess Jenny has some sort of chorus/reverb pedal? Every now and then her vocals would get really intense; and it wasn't just her voice, which is pretty incredible live, I have to say. Blake had that goofy long-bang-ed hairdo, died a dark-purplish.

I got there late, and I thought I was an hour early! The wrong time was posted on the Web site (6:15 instead of 5:15); if I'd tried to be "on time" I would have missed the whole thing!

Jenny closed out saying they were pretty excited about the show because they all lived in this neighborhood (yay!).

I know I missed some banter and a lot of other great stuff because I could hear some of it in the distance as I approached and thought to myself: Hey, is that them? They aren't supposed to be on for another hour! (The correct time was printed on the postcard at the door, but the wrong time was on the web site, though I already said that.)

Well, sorry to come off like a gushing fan, but there ya' go; guilty-as.

regarding the time change, they just switched with the moving unit so Rilo Kiley played at 5:15. must have been last minute. because i'm a big paranoid when it comes to finding parking and not getting lost, i got there at 2:30, walked around and then went to the stage RK was to play at, at 3. was fortunate enough to get a good spot before it got packed (which it did by the time RK played) they played a great set as always. they seemed relaxed and ready to play and have a good time. overall it was worth it (getting a sun burn) to see them play once again. if i get the chance, i'll post some pics up.

i couldn't really hear much of the banter either and i was further back, the sound sorta sucked.

i wrote the setlist down (even while getting laughed at by my friends) and this is how it went:

spectacular views
my slumbering heart
execution of all things
capturing moods
paint's peelin
small figures
arms outstretched
better son/daughter

it was sorta bizarre that they ended it like that...it seemed unfinished or something.

from what i hear though, blake and jenny were onstage with bright eyes at the belle and sebastian show up north, so maybe they switched for the earlier time slot today so they could head over to the belle and sebastian/bright eyes show tonight. but i dont really know.
