04/21/01 Pomona, CA, Glass House

w/ Phantom Planet, Rooney, The Push Kings

[review]

We knew the only way to truly cover an event as important and ominous as this was to dress our selves up like peacocks and get right in the thick of it all...Finding good Alcapolco shirts on a wensday afternoon in S.O.C. was nearly imposible, I was consoling myself with cheap chemcal madness when an assosiate of mine found the right place. Clean american atmosphere, art deco, and a trained ape working the register. Our kind of place. Purchasing the shirts took no time after finding them, but leaving the parking lot was another matter. While inside someone had tampered with my vehicle, the stick was nearly glued in place and reverse was nowhere to be found. I finaly got the grey monster to roll out of lot and burned first gear all the way home. The stink of hot metal filled the car, but with the windows down and the music up we were already too overstimulated to notice. the hat Chris had won at the tracks only a few weeks ago, a high rolling dwarf was down on his luck and had to put up the hat in lew of any cash.
Ariving at the show a pair of twin lesbian bull-dykes slaped me and Chris with bands. For the in-out they said, but I knew that there was to be none of that during our night in Pomona. I Quickly put the feelers out in the MERCH room, but no bitters. Coming into the performance hall I was imediatly searched by a huge blind psickic guard. He hovered above the crowd inspecting anyone with 'good vibes'. He began to get to everyone, sucking the heat right out of peoples eyes with long translucent blue tenticles. He got to me quick, my defences have never been at an aceptible level in the desert. I hummed along through Rilos set...the trumpeteer was unefected by the down of the room and began to insipe some hope in me, but that too quickly faded. Grinding out songs as they did, under constant invisible pressures, I'm not sure how Rilo stayed on stage for as long as they did. I only know that without imediate adrenail gland transplants they are going to be out of commision for several weeks. I myself had come prepared and chewed one as soon as I left the hall. By hosting a show like this Rilo put us all in extreme physical danger, a group of hookers attacked Chris and I over half a spilled amyl on the walk from the car to the show. It was all just to heavy for me, very political. A snake-pit of dangers, both real and imagined. Bad karma was think as fog as we drove back home, back where they knew us. Where they understod our vibrations.

[another review]

An acoholic stuper would had hightened the evening
but there was no time and the mescaline and ether
had been long disapated. Never the less we were in good spirits, an RK show was are only needed high, but the cocaine would help the night along.
Attacked be sassy hookers, that was my greeting to the fine city of Pamona and then a man, who dressed in the manner of a male prostitute, came after me. I asumed he was the hookers pimp he asked would you like her number. I glanced, the hookers had somehow blurred into some sort of reptiles. To stop a futher persuit I replied" No thanks, I don't want crabs." While he stood there
baffeled we made our escape into the club. Merch was good, I got a sticker, Hans bough a shirt for Autumn but she will hate it and attempt to jab he like capitan Ahab, but then he will say that jenny made it and in spite of the fact that she can not where it she will love it. Rk was great and so I eggnored the desert heat. Although I was constantly pestered by people I had wished I had no aquatance with to talk to Justine I wasn't about to take my eyes off the energy carma of RK. We the set was done I was happy, but felt empty.
The hassels of the club had put a cloud over the night, we didn't even make through the first song
of PP before my campadres desided they had had enough of screaming 15 year olds. I felt it also,
so there was to be no discussions of Eddie Izzard
that night, but pehaps later at the PP show at fullerton wednesday. Perhaps less awardness there?
The drugs have subsided, it was a good show for RK
but a F & L in Pamona day for me.

[and here's another]

I guess I can describe the whole show last night as "Tight". There were no fuck-ups to speak of.

The Glasshouse let everyone in at 7 and the show started around 7:30-8-ish, I don't really remember, but anyways The Push Kings played an acoustic set and Rooney played after.
I must say Rooney were great! I remember watching their first ever show at the Phantom Planet Phan Show and thinking how cute they were. They blew me away last night, they were really fucking rad!!

Next was Rilo Kiley... They were great as Always! Phillip the trumpet player and Alex from PP played "Plane Crash in C". I think that was the highlight of the show.
Oh wait.. I didn't like the fact that a few girls in the front ONLY took pictures during RK's set when Alex came out. I mean, come on!!! That is so lame!
Anyways... RK's set was so rad, hope they gained new fans! (which i'm sure they did!)

Phantom Planet played an awesome set as well. They played a few 'Old' as well as new songs from their new album.
Last night's show was way rad!

Your friend,
Jenny

[one more for you]

it seems that I feel disapointed with the show last night, even though I have no reason to be because RK was flawless trupet boy was all excitible along with Blake nad that guy from PP did good.
It was too crowded and screaming 13 yr olds were getting to me, the fact that I wasn't in the front row, those damn nazi fuckheads who kept telling us to get off the carpet, and that guy who was starring down anyone whom was feeling the music. Anyway, I should have enjoyed that show more. Sorry to everyone about the fear and loathing, but you can't complain if you haven't seen both F & L in Las Vegas and where the Buffalo Roam, Roger this means you. PP is playing Fullerton wednesday so maybe I get a chance to see them for more than half of their first song, plus it's free.
