08/17/01 Cambridge, MA, Middle East

w/ Nada Surf, Ozma

[review]

I finally saw RK tonight and have to say they put on a good show. They are a much better band live than on CD (so far!)
The band played a solid 35-minute set at the Middle East club (downstairs) in Cambridge. Very enjoyable.

Yeah, I've gotta second that "very enjoyable" on last night's show - except I'd modify it to "wicked awesome"! I really like the production on their CDs, but The Power of Blake is something that needs to be experienced live. Too bad the set was SO short - a measly 8 songs. And, of course, no one had clue one who RK were - but I saw some converts, so that's good... still, I think my plan to kidnap the band for this coast was premature - I shall wait till they acquire the rabid fan-base they deserve. There's time, and until then I can revel in the blissful memories of my first live RK experience... *sigh*. It was well worth nearly being hit twice by that freaky lightning storm!

Rilo Kiley is great - listen to them a lot - but when I saw them at Middle East in Cambridge they were too loud - none of the fine - delicate - barbs came through in the sound - just blow down the house ...

Can't hear Jenny - and folks in the crowd aren't getting to it because even tho the club is built for volume - the band isn't - the crowd isn't

waste of time - should have stayed out in the rain ...
rilo kiley - come back to mass but find a better place - don't blow us out - we love your sound as we get it from the 'net and cd's...

boston has too much loud r/r - we need a counter balance from rk/la
