polarbear update August 18, 2001

I wrote Biff recently regarding the shortage of 'why something instead of nothing?' CDs and to see what he's been up to. Here's what he said:

Hey man, Thanks for all your activities etc. I don't have any CDs. Eric would be the guy for that. I'll try to mention it to him. We seem to talk about every couple of weeks. He just did some session noodling for Alanis Morisette. She apparently e-mailed him afterwards telling him that she loved the Polar Bear CD he gave her. She e-mailed even a second time to say she really dug it.
I'm doing commercial music stuff at a company called Smartpill at Smartpill.tv It's a collective of graphic artists/animators/3D/web/and of course music (me). We just did the opening graphics and music for a National Geographic show called "The Human Edge" THE. It will be opening in October or so on the Nat'l Geo. TV Channel. We're hoping to do the same kind of stuff for an ABC show coming out this fall called "The Runner."
I'm playing drums for this guy Bon Harris and his project called Maven or Mvn-ae.com. Bon just finished doing a bunch of work with Marilyn Manson. He was the brains behind an eighties/nineties techno band called Nitzer Ebb. Ethyl Meatplow toured with them and that's how I know him. Andy Troy might be the guitar player. We'll do gigs in about November. West Coast. and finish here in LA for a showcase. It's just fun to get out and play drums and get sweaty. I miss it alot but I'm also loving my job because it pays well and I often get to do what I want creatively.
Haven't talked to Dani Tull in awhile. Saw Thomas von Wendt the other day. He's back in LA after going back to Germany, then India, then NY and now here again. He gave me his demo of 4 songs. Worked with Carla (Bozulich) recently on a film score for a movie called "By Hook or By Crook." Her boyfriend Nels Cline (guitar extrordinaire) has been helping me do music bits when he's not busy.

And just to complete the "where are they now?" theme of this update, I heard from Dani earlier this year and this is what he said:

"Things are good. Been working alot on my art, painting everyday in a fantastic house Yvonne and I moved into in Eaglerock. I've also been doing some production design for Movies and Music Vids. ... I put all my gear and PBR related stuff away along time ago- recently selling some gear on ebay. I do miss playing but don't miss the frustrations."
