Psi Com Lyrics

"Ho Ka Hey"
The medicine wheel is home and pasture
Heals by ecological disaster
Could have been lovers but the facts remain
There's a right wing culex in a sick terrain
One end burns, one end freezes
The unlearned hold on to neither
Globes expand and the foul regress
When the answer comes before the lesson
Oh, what a day, what a day it is
Yeah, it's a fine day... fine day
For a valedictory
Something simple, yeah
All the brave men say...
Ho Ka Hey
Ho Ka Hey
Ho Ka Hey
Ho Ka Hey
Serpent's tale is long and sweet
She is I am what we eat
The path you walk is not so straight
And there is no end to the figure 8
What a day, what a day it is
Yeah, it's a fine day... fine day...
For a valedictory
Something simple, yeah
All the brave men say...
Ho Ka Hey (x 8)
Hey! (x 14)

*** notes: These lyrics are somewhat official. It seems that there once was an old Psi-Com poster which had the lyrics to "Ho Ka Hey" written on it. Big thanks to Barton for sending them to me.
I remember once hearing someone say that they saw a John Wayne movie in which an Indian (Native American, that is) said "Ho Ka Hey" and then explained that it meant "A good day to die." That seems to agree with the lyrics, don't you think?
Someone told me Perry got the term "Ho Kay Hey" from reading a book called "Black Elk Speaks".
UPDATE: Feb 2002- I fixed a few words. I think this song is 100% correct now. No more
guesses. BTW, a "culex" is a type of mosquito.

"Human Condition"
The weight of the moment so heavy in your hands
They read what it says -- isn't that what you want?
The skin of the night is cover for the changing.
Yeah, they resent you for your changing...
And now you are one of us
Join the immortal weeping
Now you are a part of the human condition
Passion leads into the sea shaped like a smile
And still I wouldn't make that trade any day
And you open yourself up to become erotic star [or possibly "a rotting scar"]
They love you, they fucked you 'til they hate you
And now you are one of us
Join the immortal weeping
Now you are a part of the human condition
Hear what you are... you are the last to know
They both told me I was secretly bound
Your tragedy make for the greatest stories told
Now listen and laugh, cry...laugh, cry
And now you are one of us
Join the immortal weeping
Now you are a part of the human condition
diminish the full -- replenish the humble
diminish the full -- replenish the humble
diminish the full -- replenish the humble

***notes: Perhaps something about the I-Ching...?

"Xiola"
Xiola
Follows the colors in my arm
She stays calm
Xiola
Hits me as she braids my brain
With acid rain
But wouldn't you know
You can never go backwards again, no
Doomed are the maudlin
To know how it feels
Having felt that way too
Doomed are the maudlin
To know what she needs
I need it, too
Xiola
Pure are the lips that seal the abyss
She is bottomless
Xiola
Most turn, yet I command
This'll be the end
But wouldn't you know
You can never go backwards again
Doomed are the maudlin
To know how it feels
Having felt that way too
Doomed are the maudlin
To know what she needs
I need it, too
Xiola...

***notes: Xiola Blue (she actually spelled it "Bleu") was a good friend of Perry's. Back in the days of Psi-Com and early Jane's they often had sex and shot up together. She is also the subject of "Three Days" and is the middle figure on the Ritual cover.

"City of 9 Gates"
Entered city in from a sleigh
Vander's little baby voice hits the horses
Only he they obey
Left him alone, so he thought
In his nakedness with the choice of
One in seven fires best to suit his needs
There is a hood, it catches the wind
It's up in the tower that lets in the light
And bellows the fire
The city's tight, but it loosens
It's small but not for long
The city's growing crooked
The city bleeds, bleeds it's rosy veins
To empty streets
Bleeds, bleeds the rosy veins [or possibly "those roads, his veins"]
To empty streets
Nine gates seal in the city
Nine gates seal in the city
Mix the reaction and the boil and the brew
A little less sweet, more bitter
Oh, how bad tastes linger
As the howl to the hound, as the moan to the man
The voice in the peripheral says...
Bleed, Bleed
The rosy veins
To empty streets
Nine gates seal in the city
Nine gates seal in the city
What do you do, do you do
When nothing amuses you
Trade your fear for boredom
Nothing like a trip to fix
A mind that's sick of banging on the walls until they...
Bleed, bleed
Rosy veins to empty streets
Bleed, Bleed
Rosy veins to empty streets
Nine gates seal in the city
Nine gates seal in the city

***notes: [submitted by Barton]... There is a poem by Appolinaire (sp?) that was written for his lover while he (Appolinaire) was at war. The poem details his love based upon the nine gates (portals, orifices) of the body. Milan Kundera refers to this poem in his latest novel "Slowness" as well... much in the same manner. I have no idea if Perry has ever read this poem, but the context seems (possibly) similar... the city being the body, etc. I think the English title of the poem is something like "While Marching Around Collecting Shells"-- originally it is in French.
Anyway, if you check it out, perhaps you will see what I mean.

"Winds"
Lies and desire
Add the fuel to humble fires
Considering the end, where the winds begin
And I see the way we're lost among the episodes
They cannot see the hole/whole or the passing roll/role
Where the winds begin
We pass away the time immemorial
Yea for the ride upon the manic carousel
Meanings turn to one and become...
The ease of despair
Momentary is the breath
We are merely under water
Suffocating there
The time speeds beyond the shadows
Wheezing this alone
I find the peace knowing even this is passing by
Where the winds begin
We pass away the time immemorial
Yea for the ride upon the manic carousel
Three into two to one and become or you'll...
All fall down.... all fall down...
All fall down.... all fall down...
We all fall down... we all fall down...
We all fall down... we all fall down...
Where the winds begin
We pass away the time immemorial
Yea for the ride upon the manic carousel
Three into two to one and become...
Shut up... shut up... shut up... shut up...
Oh shut up... you shut up...
Ashes... ashes... ashes... ashes...

***notes: Seems to be about getting old and dying. Don't you think?

Psi Com unreleased demos

The Jane's Addiction bootleg Skin & Bones is the only CD that I know of featuring these songs with vocals.

"14th Floor" (a.k.a. "So Withdrawn Am I")
Poor Mrs. Johnson carries her baby wrapped in a paper bag
Hear her cry through the walls
Playing that tired song
I live on the fourteenth floor
I don't ever go out no more
Ya-oh, ya-oh
So withdrawn am I
Shining the lockets
Dearly departeds
Hang them on a silver chain
Like children on a swing
They're all smiling at their release
I live on the fourteenth floor
Never go out no more
Ya-oh, ya-oh
So withdrawn am I
Once had a plant that I kept on a ledge
You know, that was a gift that I got from a friend
Once lived up the hall
Wonder were he lives now
I live on the fourteenth floor
Never go out no more
Ya-oh, ya-oh
So withdrawn am I

"Cat" (a.k.a. "In The Holly Grove")
Holly!
In the holly...
In the holly grove is a mouth that never crows
Johnny west...
Johnny west will lose the echoes of green ski mountain
Turning a try
Common now and take and judging themselves superior
Waxing moon arrives
Waxing horizon costing you affection
Daughter's changed
She's never been the same
Since her return
Someone broke the cat
Broke the cat (x5)
Nine more dancers
Nine more dancers from which no one is dancing freely
Carnival clown...
Carnival clown for your pleasure he is drowning
Daughter changed
She's never been the same
Since her return
Someone broke the cat
Cryptic colors...
Cryptic coloration
She's colored in by numbers
Sucking marrow
With a stranger
Daughter's changed
Stepmother says it's a phase
Since her return
Someone broke the cat
No . more . holly

"Karuna" (a.k.a. "Finger Puppets")
Really wanna know
Who we really are
We make finger puppet, finger puppet, Karuna
Really wanna know
He don't wanna know
His own finger puppet, finger puppet, Karuna
In the night as the mantis moves her bow
She says I accept you all
Would he live a lie
Would he change his mind
It just finger puppet, finger puppet, Karuna
Would he live a lie
Change it all the time
It just finger puppet, finger puppet, Karuna
In the night sated mantis bears remorse
She says I-I-I accept you all
It was better bad, it was better bad
He be here and now, boy here and now, boy your control
It was better bad, only what he said, that was here and now, boy here and now, boy your control
In the night sated mantis bear remorse
She says I-I-I accept you all
Will he wanna grow
Will he ever know
In the Kali-Yuga, the Kali-Yuga, the Kali-Yoga
Will he ever know
Does he ever know
In the Kali-Yuga, the Kali-Yuga, the Kali-Yoga
In the night sated mantis bear remorse
She says I-I-I accept you all

***notes: David Walters helped clear up a questionable line: "In the song "Karuna" by Psi Com, even though Karuna is a Buddhist concept, in the final verse he sings (instead of "Will he ever really know/In thar-a-you,in thar-a-you..."): "Will he ever really know/ In the Kali-Yuga, in the Kali-Yuga..." which is a Hindu concept of dividing Time into Yugas or holy periods, of which the Kali-Yuga (Age of Iron) is the least holy (present 40,000 or so years! ...) - Perry has talked about it in P4P interviews, so I know he's definitely familiar with it, and I got all excited when I figured it out..." Thanks to Chase and his PC page!

Psi Com unreleased / unrecorded songs

As far as I know, these songs are only available on bootleg live tapes.

"Follow the Insated (insainted?)"
Precious as a diamond
Waiting for you to take, she is.
Everybody's into her performance, the split eye mind
The bleeding child is you
Confusion, is the sound of today.
Even, the son of a son: Indifference's stand in your way
Follow, follow the Insainted (x2)
Follow!!!!!!!! (x3)
The body is cold.
Wish? Wishes!
My wish is coming true!
I'm what I've always wanted
(Noone can save you)
Freedom for slaves who do not know they are
The tricks I've played, a shallow grave
Why would you stand the lies!?!?
(Chrous again)

"Greedy Was The Begger"
Beggar!
Beggar beggar wrote upon the wall
Why must honesty be so obscure?
And other phrases but he stole them all
Oh! poor fella he did it all
Greedy was the beggar (x 2)
Beggar beggar what I don't know
Why must he just think if he's gonna score?
He really wants you, a real hoe
Greedy was the beggar (x 2)
Am I wrong? Fuck you!
Suck.........my dick!
Beggar beggar why is he gonna score?
He's gonna get himself and us a whore
He really wants you to hump his dick
Yeah your humping now, his dick!
Greedy was the beggar (x 2)
I let you in
You are you, once more
The beggar was (x 4)
Greedy was the beggar (x 4)

*** notes: Perry used some of the lyrics to this song on a flyer, which was later used in the inside artwork for the Triple X re-issue of the Psi-Com CD. (complete with the misspelling of "Beggar")

"Silhouette"
It's a short life
Such a short life and now
Is yesterday
A thought that imitates another page, another day
Reach inside you now, and try to realize
What you are about
I watch the world through chain-link fences
Out of touch, out of love
A picture that I hold of you
It has no frame
Every girl I've ever loved
They always seem to look the same
___?___
Its got inside us and won't let go
Secrets packed away to rest now
No one tells forever more, no
Bring the _?_ down the street
___?___
___?___
Take a trip down memory lane
Somewhere safe and somewhere clean
___?___ to hear them say we're your friends
Take a final view
Of the world outside
Close the door
For the final time
I watch you sleeping
In the snow
Tracing out an angel
You're my silhouette (x2)
Bring the _?_ down the street
___?___ and thats ok
___?___
Take a trip down memory lane
Somewhere safe and somewhere clean
___?___ to hear them say we're your friends

*** notes: It has been said that Xiola and Casey looked alike. That might have something to do with the line "every girl I've ever loved, they always seem to look the same")

The lyrics on this page ain't guaranteed to be 100% correct.. in fact, they definitely aren't! .. but I'd like to think most of them are.. or at least close.
If you've figured out something I've missed or think you've found a mistake, let me know.
Many thanks to Barton, Chase (he has a PC page too), Nik, Gwen, Jason, and Erik for much help with some of these lyrics.
