time - 40m
quality- ok.. tape hiss, volume fluctuates at times
format- cdr (from tape)
set- Syringe Mouth, Flowers (Psychedelic Furs), Chasing a Bee, Car Wash Hair, Frittering, Very Sleepy Rivers
notes- the person I got it from says, "This was the second date of Mercury Rev's first ever tour, so I think I'm right in saying it is only the third time they'd played together. I was at the show, and it was a little chaotic. The band set up their own gear, and Grasshopper brought up about ten effects pedals taped to a board, plugged his guitar in and strummed a chord.... Howling feedback, ear-bleeding noise came from his amp, whilst he just left the stage, leaving the guitar lying on stage and the noise got worse. He came back on stage a minute or so later to start the gig. David Baker was at the bar as the band started playing, and had to fight his way through the crowd to get to the stage. We all thought he was just a loon from the crowd who'd jumped the stage, rather than the real singer. There's a nice bit where Jonathan, trying to play Car Wash Hair, slips into Chasing a Bee, which they'd just played. He has to start over..."

time- 37:45
quality- ok
format- dvd
set- Syringe Mouth, Trickle Down, Something For Joey, Chasing A Bee, Very Sleepy Rivers, Boys Peel Out
notes- My first [and currently only] Baker-era live video. Shot with a hand-held camera close to the stage on the left. Shakey picture and the sound isn't very good compared to the audio available from the radio broadcast and b-sides, but still very cool for a rev fan like myself who never got to see the band in their original incarnation.

notes- the first few seconds of Endlessly are missing, and the tape cuts less than a minute into Hudson Line (the batteries died), which really sucks because i dont have any other live [on stage] versions of that song.

Foundry, Sheffield, UK 28Oct98

set- Endlessly, Holes, Frittering, Car Wash Hair, Isolation, Goddess on a Hiway, I Collect Coins, Everlasting Arm, Boys Peel Out / Plan C, Opus 40, Tugboat, Chasing A Bee, Cortez The Killer (end cut)
notes- pretty solid audience recording, but the vocals are a bit quiet. And there are a few weird little glitches in the recording (like that on the master), and the master cuts at 8:45 on the last song.

MDH, Manchester, UK 16Jan99
time- 86m
quality- real good (aud)
format- 2 cdr

John Dee, Oslo, Norway 31Jan99
gen 0 (PRE-FM DAT-->CDR)

set- Tonite It Shows, Goddess on a Hiway, Holes, Endlessly, Syringe Mouth, Car Wash Hair, Isolation, Frittering, Peaceful Night, Everlasting Arm, Coney Island Cyclone, Opus 40, Chasing A Bee, Cortez The Killer
notes- this show sounds great, but there are annoying station ID's between several of the songs. My copy is a CDR made from a pre-FM dat borrowed from a guy who works at P3 (the radio station that broadcast it) so you can't get much better than that, sound quality wise.

The Backstage, Munich, Germany 10Feb99
time- 79m
quality- excellent (radio broadcast)
format- cdr
1. radio station intro/interview
2. Goddess on a Hiway
3. Tonite It Shows

15. radio station interlude
16. Tugboat (Galaxie 500)
17. Cortez The Killer (Young)
18. radio station interlude
notes- This recording is just about perfect, except for some skipping in the middle of Delta Sun (the person I got it from says their copy is the same). Otherwise, amazing quality. And there aren't any annoying DJs going off between songs (that's saved for the short 'radio station interludes').

Flex, Vienna, Austria 11Feb99
time- 78:26

notes- I really like this cdr, but there are a few annoying station ID's, and some little screw ups in the last couple tracks. I have some 80 minute blank cdrs, so I can copy this on one disc.

Korto RTV, Ljubljana, Slovenia 13Feb99
time- 67m

set- Tonite It Shows, Goddess On A Hiway, Car Wash Hair, Holes, Funny Bird, Boys Peel Out (Steppin' Out), Plan C, Opus 40, Frittering, Peaceful Night, Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp (slightly slower version), Chasing A Bee, Cortez the Killer

format- cdr
set- Goddess On A Highway, Tonight It Shows, Car Wash Hair, Syringe Mouth, Funny Bird, Endlessly, Holes, Frittering, Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp (slightly slower version), I Only Have Eyes For You, Peaceful Night, Opus 40
notes- quite good audience recording at first listen (either DAT or minidisc), but quiet popping throughout the show, making it seem as though it were transferred from vinyl! Also small gaps/clicks between tracks.

L'Olympic, Nantes, France 25Feb99
time- 95m
quality- pretty good [soundboard]
format- cdr (from tape)
set- Chasing A Bee, Syringe Mouth, Tonite It Shows, Endlessly, Holes, Car Wash Hair, Everlasting Arm, Racing The Tide, Boys Peel Out, Opus 40, Isolation, The Funny Bird, Goddess on a Hiway, Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp, Peaceful Night, I Collect Coins, Cortes The Killer, When You Wish Upon A Star, Coney Island Cyclone, Frittering (cut)
notes- Great show/recording. Though it's a soundboard, it's not perfect sounding.. there's some tape hiss and a few clicks/pops. "Wish Upon A Star" and "Racing The Tide" are highlights, rarely done on the DS tour.

Rodon Club, Athens, Greece 27Feb99
time- 60m

quality- pretty good
format- cdr
set- I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier, Funny Bird, Tonite It Shows, Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp, Frittering, Holes, Goddess On A Highway, Opus 40 (w/ Once In A Lifetime lyrics ending)
notes- very nice audience recording.. opening for REM, i believe.. but pops between tracks. The version of "Frittering" is different from most versions: it begins with keyboard rather than guitar.

Bizarre Festival, Koln, Germany 20Aug99
time- 35m
quality- very good (audio from TV broadcast)
format- tape (also have Young Man's Stride on cdr)
set- The Funny Bird, Young Man's Stride, Tonite It Shows, Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp, Goddess on a Hiway, Opus 40
notes- one of the very few times they played "young man's stride" on the Deserter's Songs tour.. sounds a bit different than SYOTOS-era versions.

V99 Festival (North), Straffordshire, England 21Aug99

time 45m
quality- ok
format- mp3 (from tape)
set- Tonite It Shows, The Funny Bird, Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp, Holes, Chasing A Bee, Endlessly, Syringe Mouth, Goddess on a Hiway, Opus 40
notes- audience recording.. but no crowd talking as it was taped from on the stage. The taper was standing just to the side of the drummer, so the drums are very prominent. A minute or so of Tonite It Shows is cut off.

time- 73m
quality- excellent (radio broadcast)
format- cdr
set- The Funny Bird, Tonite It Shows, Isolation, Car Wash Hair, Syringe Mouth, Holes, Frittering, Chasing a Bee, Goddess on a Hiway, Opus 40, Not Dark Yet, Cortez The Killer.
notes- This recording is an upgrade from the half-show from mp3s I had previously. Amazing quality recording I got from a guy in Israel. Almost perfect sound (the guitars could have been mixed a little louder, bass a little lower). As far as performance, it was the only show the rev played in 2000.. and it shows.. they don't sound very tight.. some mistakes. not that bad, though.

notes- sound like taper recorded over something.. bass from other show bleeds thru at quiet parts.

quality- ok
format- cdr
set- Funny Bird, Tides of the Moon, Delta Sun, Lincoln's Eyes, Tonite It Shows, Frittering, Holes, You're My Queen, Goddess On A Hiway, Dark Is Rising, Opus 40
notes- a lot of very little "gaps" throughout this show kinda ruin it.

Paris, France, Black Session 28Aug01
time- 63m
quality- very good (radio broadcast)

set- The Funny Bird, Tides of the Moon, Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp, Lincoln's Eyes, Tonite It Shows, Holes, You're My Queen, Goddess On A Hiway, Jonathan talking, Spiders and Flies, Opus 40, Saw Song, Dark Is Rising
notes- From good quality mp3s. There was some annoying chatter from the French DJ between most tracks which I edited out (seemlessly sometimes, other times it's a little obvious). The first second of Funny Bird is missing.

notes- The final 20 seconds of the last track (the big crescendo finish to "the dark is rising") has errors on it (it sounds like the cd has a scratch & is skipping, but it hasn't, it's in the recording). And what's up with over-talkative French DJs?! I'd like to punch this guy in the mouth! .....apart from those problems, it's a very nice sounding recording.
