Notes- cool to hear Frank and the guys work out songs near the beginning of
the tour. A lot of time is spent teaching the new songs to Eric Drew Feldman.
Not all tracks listed above are full run-throughs, some are partial takes or
work on specific parts of the song. Frank often sings in a lower, lazy range..
probably saving his voice for the show.

Notes- low quality recording. this is a bit crazy, the guy who recorded it constantly
pauses the tape during the show, I guess in an attempt to squeeze as much of
the show onto one side of a tape as possible. And TAO, so gaps between tracks.
So I doubt anyone will ever ask me for a copy of this.. but it's not a total
waste: the instrumental version of "Robert Onion" from the soundcheck
is kinda cool.. also, during the show Frank seems in a good mood and interacts
  with the crowd a lot.

Notes: Recorded by kevin ink at 'the studio that time forgot' in san francisco.
This is an album that Frank recorded but decided against releasing. Instead
he chose to use it as b-side fodder and as a gift for a few lucky fans. Rare
trades only.. because Frank apparantly wants it kept on the downlow.
*Update: I recently upgraded to a non-mp3'd cdr. perfect sound.

  1. encore: Robert Onion
Notes: "Solo" show with just Frank and Dave Philips. The recording
came out pretty good, except for the rowdy audience who liked to sing along
(badly) and yell and hoot (even call out requests!) during songs. Luckily, it's
not so bad during the newer, unfamiliar (DITS) songs.

  25. The Hostess With the Mostest [live Arapaho, Paris 6/7/94]
  26. The Vanishing Spies [live on Macadam TV show, Cigale, Paris 9/94]
Notes- various stuff, mostly radio and TV sessions. All solo acoustic, except
for the last 4 songs. The 120 Minutes '94 thing is Frank picking his favorite
videos, plus occasionally playing his acoustic, and 2 full acoustic performances.
The recording has the videos just about all edited out. Which is good because
it'd be really long if they weren't, but it's also bad because he has good taste!

notes: Nice one hour "UniversalBuzz" FM broadcast of a soundboard
recording that was copied straight to cassette from the master. It was then
transferred directly to CDr and there is virtually no tape noise. The broadcast
was broken down into three main sections from the show. Each section is in sequential
order, which allows you to hear all of Frank's babbling between songs. The CDr
is broken into eighteen individual tracks and there are no gaps between songs.
There is a slight cut on "Every Time I Go Around Here" and an annoying edit
of the word "fucking" in "the Marsist". While this is the
complete broadcast, not all songs played at the show were broadcast.
UPDATE: ok, now I got another copy of this show, this one directly from the
CD that the radio stations play. Sounds a bit better than the copy mentioned
above. But the tracks are chunky-style. Also, there's a small cut near the beginning
  of Men In Black.

Notes: very nice radio broadcast. a few tracks don't change smoothly (sounds
like a little jump when some tracks advance.. but not terribly annoying). and
the last track fades out a couple seconds early. the above comments on songs
are not my own, but i left them in anways. here's more text i didn't write but
you might want to read: "swedish radio (SR) aired the first hour (first
16 songs) from the Frank Black show in Malmoe (Sweden) 3 March 2001 (sic..
it was March 1st). I recorded it on my minidisc and put it on a CD. The
sound quality is pretty good, since there is no interference and since SR's
recording equipment seems quite good. It´s typical radio quality, stereo
  sound."
This recording is sometimes mislabeled as Melkweg 3/24/01.

Notes: pretty nice quality most of the time, but an annoying audience member
or two will occasionally pop in. The last song on disc 1 is cut because the
minidisc ran out. So it picks up on disc 2. Disc 2 has a few unfortunate cuts
between songs, most likely because the taper was fearful of the 2nd minidisc
running out as well, so he hit pause between songs (but Frank usually cranks
em out pretty swiftly, so this was rather pointless). Because of this, some
songs on the 2nd disc are missing a couple seconds off the beginning and/or
end. Even with these cuts, the show still clocks in at a whopping 145+ minutes!
Includes "I Will Run After You".. very rarely performed in 2001.

Notes: incomplete.. about 1 and a half hours (!) are missing. These are the
first played songs. but what's there is solid quality. Starts out a little
rough, but gets better due to re-positioning by the taper. BTW, I hear that a 90
minute soundboard DAT of this show exists but is not in circulation.

Notes: 4-11-01: CDR made directly from the master cassette tape. The first track
is from the soundcheck.. they run though "living on soul", then Rich
helps Dave Philips learn it. Pretty cool. The quality of the show starts out
ok, but gets real bad towards the middle, about at Sir Rockaby, and stays bad
for the rest of disc 1 (the master tape is like this).
Santa Monica 6/20/99: I don't know much about this, but sounds like a realaudio
broadcast and the guy recording it had some buffering problems. the performance
  itself is pretty cool, however.

Nice: frank solo with dave p. Opening for Grahm Parker. includes a rare live

have 2 versions of this show: an original, hissy version (like the master); and
an EQed version which sounds a bit better. If I trade this show to you, I'll
probably go ahead and give you the EQed version unless you specifically ask for
the original.

Cool show. And nice, clear DAT sound.. Recorded just 15 feet out front dead
center. Mostly quiet crowd, but two of the most annoying frank fans I've ever
heard are in the audience.. one guy who yells "YEAH!!" in a lame death-metal
voice, and a girl who goes "whoo whoo whoo whoo" over and over in
a really annoying way during the wait for encore.

SHOW NOTES: with Eric Drew Feldman on keys. awesome sound quality! clear
soundboard recording. if i had to give a complaint it'd be the vocals--
specifically the backing vocals could've been mixed lower.. sorry to Dave (P
and/or M), but to quote a Frank song, there's some bad harmony in a few songs,
like "marigolds". but overall i'd call this show a "must-have" for Frankophiles.

SOURCE NOTES (from taper): THIS SHOW WAS FIXED UP A BIT. IT WAS SOURCED FROM
LEFT AND RIGHT CHANNELS FROM THE SOUNDBOARD, BUT THE RIGHT CHANNEL WAS
COMPLETELY DISTORTED WITH POPS EVERY FEW SECONDS. THE LEFT CHANNEL HOWEVER HAD
ONLY MINOR POPS THOUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SHOW.
EVEN THOUGH THE BOARD SOURCE WAS LEFT AND RIGHT STEREO, THE OUTPUT MIX WAS IN
MONO. SO THE RIGHT CHANNEL WAS REPLACED WITH THE LEFT CHANNEL IN SOUND FORGE,
THUS PROVIDING A MONO RECORDING. THE REMAINING POPS WERE REMOVED WITH COOL EDIT

Notes- the 4th FB show i taped. i suppose it came out as good as the others,
quality-wise.. with no major problems to mention.
Band lineup: ok, hope this isn't too confusing: first song, frank solo. then
Dave Lovering joins for Brackish. rest of the band, sans Scott, join during
Cactus. then for Gouge, Scott replaces Lovering. Calistan is just Eric Drew
Fledman's organ with Frank singing. Dog Gone is Frank solo. Dave P comes out
and slides around on End of Miles. The rest of the band joins again during 21
Reasons. Short show because Scott was ill, apparently.

this is the first time they'd been played live). There seems to be one drunk
asshole in the crowd, but frank's in a good mood, talking and joking around
a lot. However, the recording is a little muffled at times so it's not always
  easy to understand him.

Notes: short and mellow set opening for Gordon Gano of the Violent Femmes. "Run"
with Gordon featured Frank going wild, all over the stage, screaming the whole
song, jutting out over the crowd, falling prostrate, crawling on the stage,
gnawing on guitar cords, breaking Gordon's guitar, hooking the mic cord into
the bass drum kick, faking a death. Frank joined Gano again at the end of the
show and joined in for "blister in the sun," but it's not on the recording,
as the taper (Matto) left early.

NOTES: VCD of Frank Live, Solo & Acoustic at Waterloo Records in Austin, Texas
on March 5th, 2003. The picture is quite dark. Each song is a separate track, so
probably short gaps between tracks.
I have also transferred this to cdr (audio only) with the gaps removed. Please
specify which version you want when asking for this in a trade. Honestly, the
video isn't very interesting, so you're not missing out on much with getting
just the audio.

so I could re-record in mono which may eradicate the distortion, or I could
give it to you as it is, and maybe you could do something with it. This was
the best of the 4 shows too. I'm proud to say he always gets a great reception
here in Liverpool, and he performs well on the back of it." oh, and the
taper gave it to me as-is, and i don't think the distortion is that bad at all.

Centrale) from the recording as 2 girls came and stood right next to me and
proceeded to talk very loudly all the way through the song. I moved at this
stage so this track was pretty poor. Also couldn't record encore because a security
guy stood by me, which is a bummer 'cos they did 'Chip Away Boy'"

Notes: this show is available for sale on hearitagain.net. Nice soundboard
recording (192k mp3s). However, their version is incomplete (missing "Massif
Centrale" and the first few seconds of "Cactus"). I got a different
sourced (slightly lower quality) recording (audience minidisc master > cdr) and
carefully mixed on the missing 5+ minutes from it to the beginning of the
hearitagain version to create this version. I also removed the little gaps
between tracks (from the hearitagain mp3s). So this version of the show is
complete and blip free.
